I'm Katie, an autistic tutor supporting autistic & hyperlexic students to build confidence and self-expression in academics and beyond.

I have loved working 1-1 with my kids, using my own experiences to bridge perspective and help them learn and grow.

Now, I am on a mission to help more families through resources, learning activities and books.

Hi, I'm Katie

My
Story

How I became an autism tutor

Invisible illnesses are still illnesses. I can make eye contact, have friends, be great at my job, and still be autistic! Just because someone can get through the day and be successful at work and around others, doesn’t mean they aren’t struggling, in pain, or working hard internally to get through those things.

For me, this means that I’m able to help kids and run my business the way I do! While I can adjust my perspective to perceive and understand how typical people view the world or would answer a question, the way I think, learn, and view the world is very different. This is an experience I have in common with my students and which allows me to bond with them in a special way.

Different isn’t bad or ‘unable’; different is just different.

It’s my mission in life to help children and parents understand their conditions, and to make people understand that we are more than what mainstream media likes to show.

Years of experience, including trial and error, has given me the chance to experiment with a lot of different tools and approaches. I’m always on the hunt for new, creative ways to engage with my kids and have since accumulated some favourites.
